WHAT ARE EXCIMER LASER & LASIK?

LASIK; is an excellent technique where the corneal surface is reshaped and vision defects (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) are treated with the help of rays generated by EXCIMER LASER device.

HOW IS LASIK APPLIED?

First, the eye (s) is numbed by means of topical anesthetic drops. The sight and the sense of touch are not disable the pain is suppressed.

With the help of a special tool called Microkeratome, a very thin layer (flap) of cornea is lifted. The LASER DEVICE previously adjusted according the eye sight defect and the eye structure of the patient reshapes the cornea. Then and the flap is placed back. Thus the operation is completed without any stitches.

WHO MAY UNDERGO LASER TREATMENT?

·       Those older than 18 years of age

·      Those with no change in their eye sight during the last year

·      Those with myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism

·      Those with no other ophthalmologic complications besides the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses (such as glaucoma, cataract, uveitis, retinopathy, etc.), and

·      Those who want to get rid of their eyeglasses and contact lenses are  nominees for this treatment.

The expected results and possible complications are determined by the detailed examination carried out by the ophthalmologist prior to the implementation. While some of the eye sight defects of certain persons may be resolved with LASIK application, other refractive surgical methods may be required to correct the eye sight defects of others.

PRE-LASIK APPLICATION

It is necessary to perform a detailed “EXAMINATION” prior to the application to decide whether the eye is suitable for such an operation. This examination also includes “CORNEA TOPOGRAPHY”, and “PACHYMETRY”, to determine the shape and the thickness of cornea. People using contact lenses should remove them for some time before the operation. This period depends on the type of lens that used. It is 1 week for soft lenses, and 4 weeks for gas-permeable hard lenses.

POST-LASIK APPLICATION

You may go home with your eyes open right after the procedure, however you will have to start using the medication prescribed to you by your physician. Generally, right after the procedure, a great improvement in the eyesight is observed. During the recuperation period, complaints such as blurred vision, slight tingling, sensitivity to light, watering, etc., may be encountered , however these  will eventually disappear over time.
