Glaucoma, a serious
disease nicknamed as the “sneak thief of sight”,
happens with the raised intraocular pressure. If not
treated, it may lead to BLINDNESS.
In general, it does
not have any symptoms in the beginning. After the disease
progresses and commences to damage the optical nerves, there
will be deterioration in vision. The diagnosis is usually made
during eye examinations. In cases where this is suspected,
advanced examinations will be required such as area of vision,
pachymeter, and OCT.
The treatment is
first applied with drugs. The drug treatment should not be
halted unless suggested by the physician. If the intraocular
pressure does not drop with the drug treatment, laser or
surgical intervention will be applied.
Treatment may only
protect reduced the vision that currently exists. It is not possible to
restore vision to its previous state. Early diagnosis is
therefore very important.
