Who can use contact lenses?

Contact lenses are lenses placed on the eye to correct visual impairment.

It is used to correct refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. In the eye disease called keratoconus, vision is reduced and vision does not increase sufficiently with glasses.

In these patients, vision can be improved with gas permeable rigid lenses, piggy back lenses or hybrid lenses. Cosmetic lenses have been produced to change eye colour.

Contact lenses are a great advantage for those who do sports and especially for those who wear high prescription glasses, as they provide a wider field of vision and normal-sized objects.

What Should We Pay Attention When Buying Contact Lenses?

Since contact lenses are placed directly on the eye, they should be given under the control of an ophthalmologist and it should be investigated whether the eye is suitable for lens use. The contact lens must be compatible with the eye.

Lenses that do not move sufficiently on the eye cause erosions and redness due to malnutrition in the eye. In those who use lenses that move too much on the eye, stinging and redness are seen as a result of irritation in the tissues.

Lack of tears, allergy and working environment are important factors affecting lens wear.

How Should Lens Examination Be Performed?

Before giving contact lenses, the spectacle examination of the person must be performed again. A change in the spectacle number is one of the reasons that reduce lens satisfaction.

The trial lens in the number closest to the spectacle number is placed on the person's eye and left for a while. Then it is checked whether the lens fits or not.

If the fit is good, contact lenses are ordered again after the number is determined on the lens. Buying contact lenses without examination by looking at the glasses prescription can have serious consequences that can lead to loss of the eye.

What are Contact Lens Types?

Different contact lenses are produced according to the needs. The doctor should decide who can use which type of contact lens.
