What is cataract and how is it treated?
A cataract is the loss of transparency of the natural lens of the eye — the lens behind the pupil that provides vision. The only treatment is surgery: the clouded lens is removed with ultrasonic energy (PHACO method) and replaced with an artificial intra-ocular lens.
When should a child have their first eye examination?
Even in the absence of any complaint, the first eye examination should be performed by a specialist ophthalmologist between 6 months and 1 year of age. Follow-up examinations should then be performed at age 3 and before starting school.
Who can have laser treatment?
Laser treatment is generally suitable for patients who are at least 18 years old, whose refraction has been stable for the last year and whose eye anatomy (corneal thickness, etc.) is appropriate. Suitability is confirmed by a detailed preliminary examination.
Do you accept Social Security (SGK)?
