Position the chart shown alongside in a well-lit room, at an appropriate reading distance, and so that the central dot is exactly at eye level. If you normally wear glasses or contact lenses for reading, please put them on.

Cover one eye with your hand and focus the open eye on the central dot. Notice whether you can see all 4 corners of the large square in the chart. Repeat the procedure for each eye separately. If you cannot see all the corners — or if you see waviness, distortion or blurring in the lines — you may have signs of age-related macular degeneration. Consult an ophthalmologist specialising in Retinal Diseases as soon as possible.
