When a person is born, we say “they have opened their eyes to life“. We perceive our eyes as a window onto life.
- The first 5 years are very important in the treatment of amblyopia!
- Strabismus in babies must not be neglected.
- It will be very beneficial to have an eye examination for our babies when they have completed their sixth month, for our children when they have developed the ability to express themselves at 2–3 years of age, and before starting school.
- The cause of failure at school may be a refractive error!
- People with headaches should first have an eye examination.
- Glaucoma (raised eye pressure) is an insidious disease that results in blindness if left untreated. Patients with glaucoma must not stop their medications unless their doctor advises so.
- Diabetes causes bleeding in the retinal layer of the eye.
- People with hypertension and diabetes should have an eye examination at least once a year.
- Flashes of light and dark spots may be a sign of a retinal tear.
- Age-related macular degeneration is the most common cause of blindness in people over 60. It is observed more frequently in those with a family history, in those overexposed to sunlight, in smokers and in people with hypertension. When vision problems begin, the quality of our lives diminishes.
To understand the importance of our eyes, close them for just one minute!
